Location of work: ACT (Interstate candidates will be considered for this position with remote working negotiated)

Length of contract: 12 months

Contract extensions: 2 x 12 months

Security clearance: Must be able to obtain Baseline

Rates: $80 - $100 per hour (inc. super)


The Practice Support Section, in the Primary Care Division has responsibility for a range of functions which build the capacity of general practice and encourage ongoing improvements, through accreditation and the Practice Incentives Program (PIP). 

The Section is seeking to engage with an officer to fill a current vacancy to ensure the continuity of work undertaken by the section managing and improving the PIP program data from various data sources. 

This work is high profile with a high level of visibility with the Minister and Executive, and often requires a high and quick level of responsiveness to urgent needs. 

The Section also works closely with the AIHW in their role as National Data Custodian of the PIP Eligible Data Set and with PHNs which have an integral role in the Quality Improvement Incentive. Secretariat support is provided for the PIP Advisory Group (PIPAG). 

As a Data Analyst supporting the Practice Incentives Program (PIP) you will help design, develop, implement and support the required systems and business solutions by: 

  • Supporting the PIP with data management and analysis 
  • Undertake data visualisation, analysis, modelling and projections, using PIP data from various data sources 
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders (particularly Services Australia and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare) to support policy and program evaluation through the provision of data and advice. 
  • Support other programs of work within the Section and Branch, including preparation of briefs and data requests. 
  • Develop and enhance the PIP program's reporting capabilities via Power BI to provide:
  • - Better operational reporting with improved operational support to practices, PHNs and stakeholders
  • - More comprehensive payment reporting to give further clarity and insight into the PIP program (and associated incentive) payments, and
  • - More accurate forecasting modelling for the PIP program and the associated incentives.


Essential Criteria

  1. Experience with design, development and implementation of business solutions.
  2. Demonstrated experience with data presentation and visualisation focussing on user experience design.
  3. Demonstrated experience with data modelling, analysis and cleansing.
  4. Demonstrated experience or ability to use Power BI, Sharepoint and Power Query.
  5. Demonstrated experience with DAX (or similar)


Desirable Criteria

  1. Relevant IT qualifications/certifications
  2. Good understanding of Databases, Frameworks, Design, Algorithms, etc. and ability to adapt to Emerging Technologies and Tools.
  3. Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with clients in a professional manner.
  4. Ability to work cohesively, transparently and collaboratively in a team environment, including when making decisions.
