What our Infrastructure Engineers do:
  • Provide the continuous integration of the infrastructure, systems, and security with our development/product platforms by maintaining, monitoring, and upgrading performance.
    • Building with and using tools in our techstack such as:
      • Nginx
      • Cassandra
      • MySQL
      • Zabbix
      • ELK
      • Linux packages/kernels
      • Scripting with Bash and Python
      • Route53, Cloudflare
      • Hosted data centers
      • Proxmox
      • Sophos XG
      • Ansible
      • CEPH
      • AWS Services
  • Design, deploy, and implement Pagefreezer solutions on AWS with various stakeholders
    • Maintaining any common infrastructure services in the cloud used by your assigned product team
  • Collaborate with the Engineering team on AWS deployments using solid teamwork and communication skills.
    • Consulting the team as a technical resource on new applications or potential system enhancements in support of future requirements or development
    • Researching and recommending improvements to the organization's systems and infrastructure hardware and software
    • Conducting planning scenarios to ensure hardware is adequately sized and configured to meet the needs of scaling up
    • Set our team up for success by writing thorough documentation in tools like Jira, Confluence, and GitHub
  • Help scale our infrastructure to keep up with company growth
    • Using the data generated by monitoring tools to identify errors/bottlenecks and assisting the Development team in resolving them
    • Fixing errors and system issues via periodic testing, help desk tickets, and other methods
    • Testing and installing issued patches in conjunction with software providers and vendors or other third parties
  • Ensure Information Security policies and procedures are automated where possible, adopted, and followed within you assigned team or group
    • Act as the point of contact for your team and stakeholders for all security related matters in product development, deployment and operations
    • Managing and monitoring user access to servers and customer data, system logs and application access
    • Implementing and maintaining separation of development, testing, and production environments
    • Helping to create and implement policies and procedures around security and disaster recovery for the business.
    • Scheduling, performing, and maintaining daily backup operations

  • Past experience succeeding in a similar role.
    • 4+ years of experience in Systems Administration, Operations Engineering, Cloud Systems, Site Reliability, or Automation Engineering or Production Operations, Development Operations etc.
    • Experience with large environments on AWS is preferred
    • Fully understands the application process and the metrics to monitor resource usage
    • Strong knowledge of system design, analysis, installation, backup, recovery, storage management, methodologies, processes, and tools.
    • Practical working knowledge of Linux and Linux Administration
    • Scripting skills with Bash and Python, or other similar scripting tools
    • Super comfortable filtering and analyzing logs to understand problems in software
  • Participated in live deployments in Agile, automated, hybrid infrastructure environments.
    • Confident in distributed systems and setups (e.g., Kubernetes, HDFS, Service Oriented architectures spread across multiple machines)
    • Understands various file systems, specifically AWS S3, and CephFS, Experience with Containerization and/or virtualization technologies and tools (e.g. Proxmox..)
    • Worked with automation toolsKnows networking TCP/IP protocols and diagnostic tools
  • Top-notch team communicator, good documentor, shares knowledge with peers, creates tools that help teams be more productive and utilize the tools and process we use, like Slack, Jira, and GitHub, and happy to work with legacy code
  • Experience in implementing security controls and policy within product development or product deployment in cloud and on premise.
    • Understanding and experience implementing security controls at hardware, network and application level
    • Familiar with Information Security Management System and InfoSec governance
    • Experience with security reporting and security tracking tools
  • Experienced with any of these nice to haves (or willing to learn):
    • Elastic Search
    • Software development skills in Java
    • Familiar with or curious to learn about DDos mitigation techniques
    • Past responsibilities included information security tasks, or participating in a SOC or ISO audit
  • Able to work 40 hours a week and authorized to work in the Netherlands -- this is a remote role (although you're welcome to work from the office whenever you wish), but you must be located in The Netherlands.
