The role:

We have a truly unique and exciting opportunity for a Head of Data and Analytics to come in and really make a difference. You will be a natural leader with a passion for data and analysis as well as a clear vision for how data can transform company strategy, working closely with the CEO to get it implemented.

You’ll get fully immersed, being actively involved and effective at delivering in a startup environment; hands-on leadership is necessary to grow a team through the startup phase into a mature organisation. You’ll be fundamental to the business, responsible for designing, implementing, deploying, and scaling the data function in a mixed environment of cloud/SaaS and self-managed products and systems.

We’re a globally distributed, remote-first business so you’ll need to be able to consider global operations, as well as be able to set up and manage a remote, geographically dispersed team - but we know you’ll be able to do that!

Here’s what you’ll be getting up to:

  • Ensure the Company’s data is centralised into a single data lake and modelled to support data analysis requirements from all functional groups
  • Create a common data framework so that all company data can be analysed in a unified manner
  • Create a plan to develop and mature our ability to measure and optimise usage growth, mapped to our user journey and then implement it
  • Develop a roadmap for the data and analytics function that clearly defines ownership and responsibility between the central data function and the functional groups
  • Work closely with the executive team to deliver and implement the tools, processes and operations required to derive insights from our data
  • Working directly with the SRE and DevOps teams to plan, provision and deploy a data stack
  • Regularly meet with wider business stakeholders to identify data requirements and data resources
  • Working independently or with engineering teams to build ETL pipelines for the data stack
  • Work closely with our Research function to identify and analyse data resources that can enhance, educate, or provide insights for the wider company
  • Hire and build an effective data team as Tyk matures and grows

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Self-motivated: Independent and senior operator that can deliver results from the start with minimum guidance from the Founder Team
  • Articulate: a strong communicator to be able to talk to business stakeholders
  • Realistic: extremely hands-on and pragmatic (you don’t necessarily need to be a programming guru, but should be able to write solid SQL queries with several years of experience in doing so)
  • Agile: experience working with APIs, bonus points if you’ve worked in or with API Management tools
  • Entrepreneurial: has worked in a startup / scale-up environment before
  • Technical: can demonstrate knowledge in all elements of a data & analytics setup:
  • (Web) analytics
  • Databases
  • Data Visualisation


  • Natural leader: experience in a leadership position managing an analytics team
  • Dynamic: experience with a high growth company using on-premise tools and on-demand (SaaS) transactional systems
  • Practical: hands on experience with Python, SQL and relational databases
  • Self-starter: previously led or work-led on a corporate data platform project
  • Masterful: experience with open source data & analytics tools.
  • Collaborative: experience working with multiple executive level business stakeholders
  • Capable: must have experience with analytic and data visualisation tools
