About the Role

We are a small team accustomed to getting things done. To move even more quickly, we seek a Director of Operations and Finance to lead all aspects of Voyager’s back office operations.

Director of Operations and Finance

Location: Flexible / Remote. Preference for SF Bay Area or NYC

Principle Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of Voyager’s back office, including operations and finance

Operations

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Voyager’s service partners (fund administrator, accountant, tax advisor, law firm) regarding fund operations and administration
  • Manage Voyager’s relationship with technology and service vendors, including contracts, billing and daily operations
  • Manage payroll input and approval in collaboration with Voyager’s fund administrator
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal payroll, workers comp, and other regulations
  • Oversee employee benefit plans, with particular emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package
  • Review and manage internal processes and systems to improve efficiency where possible
  • Manage internal databases and record-keeping
  • Support Voyager’s fundraising and investor relations with Limited Partners
  • Manage document review and operational tasks in collaboration with Voyager’s law firm
  • Assist with the preparation of communications to Limited Partners and general publications
  • On an ad-hoc basis, support the investing team’s operational work on behalf of portfolio companies

Finance

  • Contribute to Voyager’s future direction by guiding the firm’s financial and tax strategies, budgeting and forecasting, and fund administration in collaboration with Voyager’s fund administrator
  • Manage relationship with Voyager’s banking partner and capital call line of credit provider
  • Manage wire processing and cash controls
  • Oversee financial details of the investment process end-to-end
  • Oversee the financial operations of active funds and SPVs
  • Manage fund administration relationship (currently with Carta), which includes reviewing and overseeing capital calls, distributions, management fee calculations, and waterfall calculations
  • Oversee the company’s invoice payment and financial reconciliation process
  • Support Managing Partners’ communications with Limited Partners regarding capital calls, quarterly reporting and inbound communications
  • Manage Voyager’s tax and audit relationships
  • Manage tax planning and filing of the active funds and GPs
  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts, including fund lines of credit
  • Own the portfolio construction model
  • In collaboration with the fund administrator, manage preparation of the funds’ periodic Net Asset Value calculation and year-end financial statements, management of the audit, and reviewing other fund related reports
  • Review and approve all financial reporting and filings
  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the company’s risk profile
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage

Requirements

  • Track record of growing businesses as CFO, COO, Corporate Controller, Director of Business Operations and / or VP of Finance, or other role with similar responsibilities
  • Experience in private equity, venture capital or fund administration
  • Preferred at least five years of progressive career development in corporate accounting or operations
  • Natural curiosity
  • Flexibility, good humor and creativity in anticipating and responding to team and partner needs
  • Excellent spoken and written communication and experience partnering with an executive team
  • Experience with regular reporting requirements and financial modeling
  • Advanced Excel proficiency, including building and maintaining financial models
  • Master’s degree in business administration or accounting, degree in law, or equivalent business experience
