Payroll Manager Job Description

Payroll Manager job description will consist of the role, responsibilities, qualifications and technical or soft skills required

Role

Payroll managers manage payroll preparation, maintain and update payroll information, and complete reports. They ensure compliance with established company policies and protocols and support internal and external audits. Payroll Managers also manage employee requests and queries related to payroll as per the defined SLAs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and design systems to process payroll account transactions (e.g. salaries, benefits, garnishments, deductions, taxes, and third-party payments)
  • Ensure that data is managed in a timely and accurate manner across various systems
  • Partner with the HR ops team to ensure payroll data flows seamlessly between HR Ops, Payroll, and Finance teams
  • Oversee processing of payroll changes (e.g. new hires, terminations, raises) and system upgrades
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, local regulations, state, and country-level statutory compliances, wage and hour laws, and tax requirements
  • Supervise and coach payroll clerks and assistants
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports
  • Resolve issues and answer payroll-related questions
  • Ensuring timely and accurate processing of payroll
  • Work with various internal stakeholders to handle payroll-related inquiries and resolve any issues or errors promptly

Requirements

  • Proven experience in payroll administration with 1-2 yrs of experience in leading the payroll sub-function
  • Knowledge of payroll procedures and related laws
  • Knowledge of compensation & benefits and total rewards
  • Excellent understanding of multi-location payroll and taxes
  • Familiarity with payroll software/ HRIS (e.g. SAP, ADP, Kronos) and MS Office (especially Excel)

Soft Skills

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication
  • Organizational and leadership skills

Bonus

  • Professional certification (e.g. CPP, CPM)
  • Payroll experience for International geographies

Salary Range (in USD)

$55,000 - $1,00,000 per year

Qualifications

  • MBA in Human Resources Management, MA in Accounting, Human Resources or related field
